FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - There should be plenty of flu shots available to state residents who don't want to wage their annual battle with the bug.
Public Health Commissioner William Hacker says there have been no manufacturing or shipping issues this year, meaning there should be plenty of vaccines to go around.
National guidelines say children ages six months to nearly 5 years old should receive a flu shot each year. Adults over the age of 50 are also urged to get the shot.
The state also suggests residents wash their hands often to protect against germs and avoid close contact with those who are sick. Officials say people who come down with an illness should stay at home if they can to prevent the illness from spreading to others.
