City Considers Taking Over Unkempt Properties

In one Madison County community, if you don't keep your property maintained, you could lose it to the local government.

That issue was debated Tuesday afternoon by the Richmond city commission.

Under a proposed ordinance , the city could take control of blighted property and use it for a public purpose, such as housing.

Mayor Connie Lawson wants the ordinance to cover both residential and business property.
