Posted: Thu 10:52 AM, Oct 25, 2007

LATTA, S.C. (AP) - A 38-year-old man serving with the South Carolina National Guard in Afghanistan has died.

Family members say Sergeant Edward Philpot of Latta leaves behind a wife and three young daughters.

Philpot's relatives did not want to give details of the death. The Pentagon also has not released details.

Philpot's aunt Lois Hayes says her nephew left for Afghanistan in January and served as a military scout. She says he was highly regarded as a father and a good citizen of his local community.

Hayes says Philpot will be buried in Kentucky, his home state.
