A house fire in Lexington shut down a busy road near the UK campus for hours.
The house at 630 Euclid Avenue caught fire at around 11:15 Friday morning.
Investigators say the woman who lives in the home wasn't home when the flames broke out. She told fire officials she spotted the flames when she got home and called 911. Neighbors had to keep her from going into the home to retrieve some of her belongings.
Firefighters quickly put out the flames and the damage was mostly contained to a kitchen in the rear of the home.
Fire crews shut down Euclid Avenue between Park and Marquis Avenue for hours as they worked the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
The victim, who didn't have fire insurance, is being helped out by the American Red Cross.
