Kentucky Church Sends Support Letters To Britney Spears

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A Lexington church is trying to send letters offering support and love to troubled pop star Britney Spears.

The letters offer messages such as, "Britney, Jesus loves you. The congregation of Southland Christian Church loves you as Jesus loves you. We are praying for you."

They were the brainchild of Southland Christian Church pastor John Weece. Weece says the idea came as he watched repeated reports of Spears' spiral into drug rehabilitation and the loss of her children.

So in a sermon and in a September 19th blog on the church Web site, Weece asked his congregation of nearly eight-thousand people to put together a box of letters for Britney.

Weece says Spears had made (quote) "devastating life choices."

The church's director of communications, Cindy Willison, says the letters were still being collected on Friday and church officials were looking for the best way to get the mail directly to Spears.
