Man Dies After Car Drives Off Boat Ramp Into Ohio River

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) - The body of an adult male was found inside a car that witnesses said intentionally drove off a ramp and into the Ohio River on Saturday night.

The car, a four-door sedan, was pulled from the river Sunday morning, the Ashland Daily Independent reported on its Web site.

A body was removed from the vehicle by the Boyd County Coroner's Office. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Witnesses told police that the car drove onto the ramp, backed up and then revved its engine before plunging into the water.

"The car went halfway down, the trunk popped open and it nose-dived down," said Sam Riedel of Ironton.

Riedel said the car was accelerating when it went into the river. Rescue workers tried to recover the vehicle on Saturday night, but stopped around midnight.
