A four-year-old fell asleep while riding the bus to school.

But officials say when a Scott County pre-schooler woke up yesterday, no one was around.

Now, many are asking why he was left alone on the bus for an hour before anyone found out.

Officials say a four-year-old preschool student fell asleep on the bus on the way to school.

Logan Freeman was discovered about an hour after the driver had completed his morning route.

Officials say J.T. McClanahan had driven the bus back to his home, when he found Logan.

McClanahan had reportedly walked through the bus back at the preschool, but didn't see the child.

McClanahan is suspended with pay during the investigation.

He has been a Scott County bus driver for more than 15 years.

Well, when I was riding the bus, the oldest kids had to make sure that the little kids was up and if they fell back a sleep we would tell the bus driver that the child was still slepping and they would make sure they was off. Somtimes if you are doing a bus check a child can getr up in uder the seat and it may be hard to see them if it is dark outside but I think they should know how many students are on the bus and how many get off, because little kids can't deal with the cold like an older person might.I am not trying to say that the man did not do his job but like I said some children are really small and could hide under the set and you not even see them.

When I was growing up and going to public school in the '60s and '70s, (in Ky. but not Lexington) every school bus had a broom in it. Most were in a holder in the back of the bus. Every driver was required to sweep the floor of the bus, from one end to the other, at the end of each route. This not only ensured that the bus was somewhat clean, it pretty much eliminated the chance of anyone, or any books, etc., being left on the bus. Also, because most bus passenger loading doors could not easily be opened from outside the bus, most drivers entered and exited their buses via the emergency door in the back of the bus, also forcing them to walk the full length of the bus. Maybe if today's drivers would continue some of these habits the chance for a repeat incident would drop substantially.

I am the granddaughter of J.T. the bus driver. For your information my grandfather, is NOT lazy, and he does do his job. He walked the bus to look for children, and he did not see the child which means the child WAS under the seat. My grandfather is a well respected driver in Scott County. What about his bus monitor? It is her job to watch the children. Apparently she was NOT doing her job. Do not call my grandfather LAZY! She is the one that should be held more responsible. Why is she not suspended? Do NOT put all of the blame on him. At least the child was not hurt. It could have been worse, just thank god that it wasn't. If anyone thinks that it is an easy job to take care of children that have not been taught how to act in the first place. Then they are always excepting applications, please feel free to apply. Walk a mile in their shoes before you start running off at the mouth about things you know nothing about.
