Trustees Visit School-Owned Forest Before Logging

CLEMONS FORK, Ky. (AP) - Nine members of the University of Kentucky board have visited a school owned forest prior to logging beginning there.

Board Chairwoman Mira Ball says trustees had been hearing about the research project that includes logging up to 10 percent of the Robinson Forest, but few members had seen the land in eastern Kentucky.

Two of the scientists working on the project say it will determine how much of a buffer strip should be left to protect streams when logging takes place.

Trustee Ernest Yanarella called for monitoring of the project by environmental groups as well as the university.
