Copper Theft Causes $50,000 Worth Of Damage

A major copper theft at a Lexington construction site has put the project way behind schedule.

Officials with Shearer and Johnson Electric Company say someone broke into the site along Bull Lea Road earlier this week. The company is installing electrical equipment in a 10 million dollar building for a high tech company.

We're told the thieves tore wiring out of the walls and circuit breakers.

Officials with the electric company say the thieves only got away with a few hundred dollars worth or copper, but they caused more than 50 thousand dollars worth of damage.

50 to 60 thousand feet of wiring are now going to have to be reinstalled. That is going to put the project behind schedule.
