GLENCOE, KY -- Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in a two-car collision in Gallatin County near Glencoe Saturday evening that killed one and injured another northern Kentuckian.
A Kentucky State Police news release identified the victim as 18-year old Samantha Spade of Glencoe. The injured driver of the second vehicle was identified as 24-year old Matthew Miles of Sparta. Police suspect Miles was speeding and may have been legally intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Miles was flown to University Hospital in Lousville where he was listed in critical condition early Sunday morning. Spade was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner.
State police say the collision occured shortly before 8 p.m. on U. S. 127 just north of Glencoe. Reportedly, Miles was southbound and lost control of his car, went off the road and overcorrected. Police say Mile's car crossed into the oncoming lane and into the path of the vehicle driven by Spade, hitting it head-on.
State police say they are continuing their investigation of the mishap. No criminal charges had been lodged as of release of the information Sunday morning.
