JAMESTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - Three people were killed Monday when their helicopter crashed in a remote area of Tennessee near the Kentucky border.

The helicopter was a privately operated Robinson R-44, which can seat four people.

The circumstances of the crash at 2:15 p.m., eastern time were not clear but a witness reported that the helicopter crashed and burned.

The FAA said it's not clear how many people were aboard.

No identities have been released.

Fentress County is on the Cumberland Plateau near the Kentucky border, about 60 miles northwest of Knoxville.

A team from the FAA in Nashville cannot make it to the crash site before sundown, so they planned to respond tomorrow morning.
