Anderson County Teen Killed After Accidental Shooting

Updated: Tue 6:29 PM, Nov 13, 2007

High school students in Central Kentucky are in mourning today after an accidental shooting takes the life of one of their classmates.

Grief counselors are at Anderson County High, where 16-year-old Deserea Driskell was a freshman.

The teen was shot and killed late Monday afternoon at her home on Cheese Lick Road near the Ballard Community.

Friends and family tell 27 NEWSFIRST she was accidentally shot by her brother. They say he had just come home from a hunting trip and was unloading his gun from his truck when all of a sudden it went off. Driskell was already dead, by the time emergency crews arrived.

Kentucky State Police were called in to investigate and at this point are only saying it's an open death investigation.

An autopsy is being performed today in Frankfort, but those results are not back yet.

Visitation for Deserea will be held Thursday from 3 to 8 pm at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg.

The funeral is Friday at 3 pm at Hope Community Church in Franklin County.
