Rash Of Bank Robberies Across Lexington

Lexington police have their hands full after a series of bank robberies.

Three banks, all in different parts of the city, were hit within a span of five hours.

The first robbery happened at the Chase Bank on North Broadway just before eleven this morning. Police say a man walked into the bank wearing a Halloween mask, armed with an automatic weapon. He demanded money, then fled the scene on foot.

Authorities say bank employees and one customer were inside at the time, but no one was injured

Around two this afternoon, the BB & T Bank on Sir Barton Way was also robbed. The suspect, Wiley Bailey, entered the bank with a handgun, and demanded money from a clerk. Shortly after the robbery, police spotted the suspect in the nearby Tuscany subdivision, and police took him into custody in a field near Winchester Road and Sir Barton.

Meanwhile, police were called out to the First Federal Bank on Tates Creek Road, which has been held up four times since June. But this time, police say new security measures stopped the robber before he could hit.

A masked suspect, armed with a handgun, attempted to enter the bank, but was unable to get inside, due to a new system of having to buzz each person in after looking at them. The suspect then took off running.

Police say the suspects description is similar to the same man responsible for dozens of robberies across the state, including three at this bank alone.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a black toboggan, sunglasses, with a bandanna covering his face.

Police say the three robberies are not related.
