Jessamine County Home Destroyed By Fire

A Jessamine County family comes home to find their home severely damaged by fire.

It's on Poor Town Road off US 27, across from the Camp Nelson Cemetery.

The couple had just left for work, minutes before the fire started.

Firefighters battled the blaze that engulfed the house where Deborah Coons' mother and father live.

Initially crew members were frantic, fearing the couple was still inside. Fortunately, they had already left for work.

When Coons' mother returned, her daughters and grand-daughter could do little to console her.

The couple bought the lot next door to build a new house, now Coons says her parents will have to speed up those plans.

The couple's dog managed to escape the burning home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
