A Lexington man wanted on sexual assault charges in Arizona is now out of jail.

38-year-old Kerry McJunkins bonded out of the Fayette County Detention Center Thursday afternoon.

Detectives from Arizona arrested 38-year old Kerry McJunkins Tuesday at his home on Tempo Court in Lexington.

The charges stem from the 1980's, when he was a teacher at a private school and allegedly assaulted a student.

Police were tipped off by McJunkins' alleged victim, who spoke to 27 NEWSFIRST about the arrest. He says McJunkins assaulted him while he was a student at a private school in Douglas, AZ.

We're told McJunkins worked at a Lexington church, but church officials tell us he wasn't in a role where he came in contact with children.

AP Story

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Police in Lexington say a local man wanted in Arizona has made bond after his arrest on child sex charges.

Kerry McJunkins was arrested at his home Tuesday.

Fayette County corrections spokesman Captain Darin Kelly says McJunkins posted $20,000 cash bond.

He had been arrested on a warrant for being a fugitive on a sexual assault charge form Coshise County, Arizona.

Broadcast reports say the charges were filed against the 38-year-old McJunkins on allegations from the 1980s, when he was a teacher at a private school in Douglas, Arizona. He's accused of molesting two boys.

Pastor Jeff Fugate of Clays Mill Baptist Church hired McJunkins to work as his assistant. Fugate says he asked him to resign after McJunkins acknowledged a homosexual relationship.

The pastor says McJunkins' work for the church didn't put him in a position of supervising young people.

So when does he actually go to trial? And where did he get $50K?

Since Fugate was told about this guy back in 2004 and didn't bother to take any action, this only confirms some suspicions I've had all along and some horror stories I've heard about Clays Mill Road Baptist Church. Some very good friends of ours who still live in Lexington have some personal horror stories about Fugate as well. He went to that church once to hand out some flyers for an upcoming Christian concert, not knowing how they are about CCM (which I think is uncalled-for), and when he met Pastor Fugate, Fugate just EXPLODED at him all because this friend of mine was wearing his hair long at the time. Since Fugate was warned about McJunkins, I fully believe Jeff Fugate should resign as pastor as well. I've listened to him on radio a few times, and IMHO, Fugate sounds like nothing but a 21st-century Pharisee -- and then he turns around and gives McJunkins a pass until he's forced to fire him. Gotta take a potty break for now -- I'm gonna go DE-FUGATE, and CMRBC should, too.

McJunkins made his initial appearance in December in Arizona, was arrested, and got out the next day by paying $50,000.00 cash.

Does anyone know what happened in his extradition hearing, or how one could find out?

i think it sad i hope that his wife spilt from him and i hope that he nevers gets to see his kids again. because a person like that needs to stay in jail and away from ALL kids. i pray for his family that they will get through this.

To the most recent Anonymous in Can't Say Location: Are you saying there are two more recent victims???? How recent do you mean? Have you reported this to your local police? What pastor are you referring to? To Paul: Why be so skeptical...if he were a teacher he wouldn't be young enough to get out of this one...and he's charged with the crimes in Arizona....so obviously a grand jury has indicted him. A case this old has to have some type of factual background.....And as for the money aspect. Why is it about money? He should pay with his FREEDOM and then his life can be destroyed as I'm sure he has destroyed his victim's lives.

I feel it is horrible that the church protects this "man," instead of seeking justice. There have been at least two mow children recently victimized by him that have actual rectal scarring. Being that they are the children of the pastor you would that he would want justice served instead of protecting him. When the belief that only God is able to judge the actions of man has become an over used excuse for people to get away with this torture. Not to mention, are his five children alright, or are they victims as well.

Our laws need to be revised concerning sexual offenders. This particular offender must have financial resources to post 20,000 cash. I have no idea how to solve a problem with these people. I know what I'd like to have done to them. Surgery to certain parts of their anatomy would be great.

This person should be in prison for good. He deserves everything they give him. It's very sickening. They should actually be hung for this. I have 3 kid's of my own and I can't even imagine something like this happening to them.

Something about this story sounds very fishy. The incident occurred in the 80's? how old was the victim then, and how old was the accused? Also, i agree with Anon, and Daniel, this man is merely accused, not convicted. Of course he's going to bail out. Why did the accuser wait so long to file charges? Could there possibly be some sort of financial motive involved with this? ... If hes found guilty, let the punishment begin then.. I bet theres lines of lawyers waiting to get a piece of this one. Wait and see if a civil case is also involved...

clay mills road baptist church was notified about mcjunkins by landmark baptist church in florida , and again in jan 04 it was not until the victims put the pressure on mcjunkins and he went to fugate that he was fired, in sep of 06 , this pastor and church deserves to be shamed , and then all fugate does is lie , he was offered the chance to deal with this private or public , guess he thought this would all go away and never come out , guess he should have taken the chance to deal with this privatly when it was offered to him .

In a school I know, the principal was also a so-called preacher. He was cought high on mushrooms ect. with a 16 year old boy. Guess where he is now. At home waiting to go to drug rehab.Put his sorry behind bars where he belongs! You know the story, seems it's always the same.Just don't get caught stealing hubcaps.you'll get life for that.

why was this thing not sent back to az?

"The charges stem from the 1980's, when he was a teacher at a private school and allegedly assaulted a student." He was a teacher so he wasn't 13. If they do it once, they will do it again. They just get better at not getting caught. This is the only time he was caught, doesnt mean its the only time he has done it. Its been proven time and again. They need to keep these animals locked up. Period.

I was there the night Pastor Fugate notified the congregation that McJunkins resigned due to immorality. He used the word immorality. As a pastor, he cannot release every detail he knows about someone's sin. Don't blame the pastor- he did his best to let us know. If he announced details of everyone's past sins from the pulpit he wouldn't be a pastor very long. Parents, talk to your kids about inappropriate behavior from adults, watch out for changes in behavior from your kids and investigate anyone involved in your kids lives. Let your kids know, FREQUENTLY, that you love them and they can trust you to help them if ANYONE hurts them. Many at CMRBC have tried to be a blessing to McJunkins' wife & kids even after they left our church a year ago. The man is scum, but his children are innocent victims along with the children he is accused of molesting. Don't blame CMRBC, we were all devastated that we had a wolf in sheeps clothing among us.

Let the sicko out like you do all the child molesters in this country! The judicial system has gotten its priorities all screwed up. This type of thing needs to be stopped!

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 15, 2007 at 09:04 PM
What a SHAME that you would show the street they live on. The little anonymity their children had is now gone. If this actually happened 25 years ago he would have been 13. That would make this a closed juvenile court case. These things happen everyday here in Ky. but are sealed by the judge and noone ever hears about them.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 15, 2007 at 08:59 PM
CMRBC did do something about him. That is why he hasn't worked there in quite a while.

clay mills road baptist church was warned about this man on jan, 2004 and did nothing about him

Posted by: Nickie Location: Clay City on Nov 15, 2007 at 03:05 PM
Just because he wasn't in a role that worked with children doesn't mean he still wasn't around them. if he has done this before then he will find a way to do it again. Most people that do do these things won't stop. they find anyway possible to get close to those they can do it to.

I think it's sad that this TV station has already found this man guilty without a trial or benefit of the dought, and that they try to sensationalize the story by alluding that he has "other victims". I also think it's sad that the station plays a tape from McJunkin's accuser, and does not give McJunkin a chance to defend himself. I'm not defending anyone who molests someone else, but they do have rights under our nation's laws, which include "innocent until proven guilty".

i hope the man that sexually molested that boy,get what he deserves when he goes to prison.can't you just imagine what he has put his family thru, and if he has kids who says he hasnt done the same to him.i was sexually assulted by my step brother for 10 years and i was also to scared to tell because he was always saying my dad want believe you,he just whip you for lying..my stepfather was a abusive alcoholic and so i believed that i would be beaten within the inch of my life, when i ran away at 16 is when the abuse stopped from both sides,i never went back..i am a lesiban, and i really believe it is because i hated what all the male role models in my life.i could not trust them and my mother never protected me from my stepfather,so of course i looked for love from a woman,i needed to be loved so badly, and it replused me to think of a man touching me.so the gentleman on the phone was right you do carry it with you and it does affect you on how you live your life,i still have horrible dream
