A Lexington man wanted on sexual assault charges in Arizona is now out of jail.
38-year-old Kerry McJunkins bonded out of the Fayette County Detention Center Thursday afternoon.
Detectives from Arizona arrested 38-year old Kerry McJunkins Tuesday at his home on Tempo Court in Lexington.
The charges stem from the 1980's, when he was a teacher at a private school and allegedly assaulted a student.
Police were tipped off by McJunkins' alleged victim, who spoke to 27 NEWSFIRST about the arrest. He says McJunkins assaulted him while he was a student at a private school in Douglas, AZ.
We're told McJunkins worked at a Lexington church, but church officials tell us he wasn't in a role where he came in contact with children.
AP Story
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Police in Lexington say a local man wanted in Arizona has made bond after his arrest on child sex charges.
Kerry McJunkins was arrested at his home Tuesday.
Fayette County corrections spokesman Captain Darin Kelly says McJunkins posted $20,000 cash bond.
He had been arrested on a warrant for being a fugitive on a sexual assault charge form Coshise County, Arizona.
Broadcast reports say the charges were filed against the 38-year-old McJunkins on allegations from the 1980s, when he was a teacher at a private school in Douglas, Arizona. He's accused of molesting two boys.
Pastor Jeff Fugate of Clays Mill Baptist Church hired McJunkins to work as his assistant. Fugate says he asked him to resign after McJunkins acknowledged a homosexual relationship.
The pastor says McJunkins' work for the church didn't put him in a position of supervising young people.

McJunkins pled guilty in a plea agreement to two felony counts of attempted child molestaion. McJunkins was sentenced to five years in prison and lifetime probation. McJunkins was ALSO ordered to register as a sex offender. The maximum prison sentence would have been five years for each count he pled guilty to. In a study of the laws of the state of Arizona, the ‘attempted’ plea is considered - in its intent - to be an admission of guilt, without a trial becoming necessary. The state of Arizona has the plea agreement of felony ‘attempted’ molestation to remove any chance of a guilty person being able to escape penalty and punishment. McJunkins’ wife, under questioning, admitted her husband’s guilt. McJunkins’ attorney acknowledged McJunkins’ guilt and McJunkins himself admitted his guilt before and to the victims, both young men and their parents. If this would have gone to trial, there is no doubt in our minds that he would have been convicted and sentenced to twenty years to life in prison. Although the letter of the law is attempted child molestation and endangerment, the intent of the law is to cause the accused to admit their guilt. In the court hearing today, this was clearly seen. Attempted molestation was not dealt with in the court. What was dealt with was McJunkins’ own admission that he had molested innocent 10 year old boys and that he was completely wrong in what he had done
