Bank Robbery Suspect In Court

He's been no stranger to Lexington police. And today, the man accused in one of three bank robberies across the city yesterday, was back in court.

Wiley Bailey had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf.

Police say he robbed the BB & T on Sir Barton Way Tuesday afternoon. The suspect entered the bank with a handgun, and demanded money from a clerk. Police spotted Bailey in the nearby Tuscany subdivision shortly after the robbery and took him into custody.

Bailey was just let out of Fayette County Jail on November 2nd, having spent much of this year in jail.

He has a criminal history that dates back to 2005. At that time, he faced charges such as possession of a forged prescription, non-payment of fines, and public intoxication, but since then his crimes have escalated.

This year he faced charges of 2nd degree robbery for jumping over the checkout counter and stealing money from the Kroger on Old Paris Pike.

He was charged with 2nd degree burglary for breaking into a woman's home on Maywick Drive in July, and had another robbery charge in October.

Many of those charges were downgraded and he only spent about a month in jail for each crime.

None of the crimes from his past are as serious as what he's dealing with now, and none of the crimes from the past involved a weapon.

Bailey could face life in prison if convicted. As for yesterday's other robberies, at the Chase Bank on North Broadway and the First Federal Bank on Tates Ceek Road, police have not made any arrests.
