27 Sportsfirst has confirmed with Ryan Mossakowski and his father, Dan, that the quarterback will transfer from Kentucky. Some of our sources have told us that he will transfer to a JUCO school in Texas, but Dan Mossakowksi says no destination has been decided on at this time.
According to Ryan's father, " Ryan chose Kentucky because the program was on the rise and he wanted to be part it, so he could make a difference, but after two years at Kentucky it became evident he wasn't going to get that opportunity at Kentucky,"
Ryan went on to tell 27 sportsfirst, " that he is grateful for the opportunity to play at Kentucky and at the end of the day you have to do what's best for you, talk to close friends and family, felt like I needed to get out on the field and play, felt like going to another school gave me the best opportunity, coaches said QB job was still open, but when it comes down to it, best decision to leave."
Ryan Mossakowski was passed over for Morgan Newton to start in UK's 27-10 Compass Bowl loss, as well as not seeing any action. After reflecting on the past and what the future could hold, Ryan decided it would be in his best interest to transfer if he was going to able to play now and not participate in spring practice.
"Out of respect for the players and coaches, if you have something like that in the back of your mind, while your going out to spring practice and keep telling yourself your going to transfer, then you're not going to be the same guy that you were the season before."
There were some questions about how Mossakowski's shoulder injury and recovery had gone since arriving on campus, but he says it's been 100 percent since this past season started.
"I feel like my shoulder and my ability are at 100 percent right now, it was a long process, but everything happens for a reason, I knew I was supposed to come to UK and now it's my time to leave."
As far as what the future holds, that's still up in the air.
"Just me getting out on the field would put a smile on my face, it will be real interesting to see where this journey takes me."
Mossakowski came out of Centiannial High School in Frisco, Texas as a High School All-American and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
