Millions Set Off For Thanksgiving Travel

Updated: Wed 7:01 PM, Nov 21, 2007

Lines are building at airports as travelers set off for their Thanksgiving destinations.

About 4.7 million Americans are expected to take to the skies for the holiday, part of the record 38.7 million expected to travel this week.

If you're hitting the road in the Bluegrass, Kentucky State Police say they're boosting road patrols and safety checkpoints. Those increased patrols will begin Wednesday at six o'clock, and last until Sunday.

For those planning to fly, officials at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport say things are running smoothly so far. Airport officials say they're now at 90%, which means you may still find some tickets this week.

Over the last year, Blue Grass Airport had 17.5% of all departing flights delayed. Louisville reported 10.5% delayed, and Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky had more than 20% delayed.
