A man is dead in Bell County after a construction accident.

Officials say he was working on a sewer line extension project in Middlesboro when a trench collapsed on him.

The worker has been identified as Joe Shephard from London. He worked for D & H Construction.

The accident happened near the campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

My prayers go out to Joe's friends and family. This happened just before the holiday season which makes things very tough. This accident has been bothering me very much and I will continue to commit myself to preventing workplace accidents.

WHAT DO I SAY, MY HEART IS BROKEN, MY THOUGHTS, MY LOVE AND MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY WHOM I LOVE VERY MUCH. I WISH I COULD BE THERE FOR THEM. JOE IS MY DAUGHTER COUSIN, MY NEPHEW, WE WILL ALL MISS HIM VERY MUCH.

Joe Shephard was a great father, husband, friend and brother in law to me. He will be dearly missed.
