BELLEVUE, Ohio (AP) - Hundreds of people turned out for a benefit to raise money for the family of a northwest Ohio solider, who was based in Kentuckky and killed last week in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Jon Martin of Bellevue leaves behind a wife and three children.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher ordered flags at all state office buildings to remain at half-staff in Martin's honor. Fletcher says Martin was based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Martin died Thursday from injuries he suffered when a roadside bomb exploded two weeks ago in Iraq. It was his third tour of duty since the war started.
Hundreds of community members in Bellevue paid $10 apiece Sunday for a benefit lunch and many threw in a few extra dollars for the family.
