An Eastern Kentucky woman faces several charges tonight after police say they found her and her animals living in filth.

The woman lives in the Tutor Key Community of Johnson County.

Officials are now taking steps, hoping to bring the animals back to good health.

49-year-old Kathy Evans was arrested and charged with 18 counts of cruelty to animals, 1 count public nuisance for the conditions of her property, and several other charges.
She's in jail in Johnson County, and the animals have been removed from the home.

When police arrived, they found eight dogs up on the roof and seven more throughout the property. There were numerous other animals and none had any food or water. Witnesses say they were kept in deplorable conditions.

It wasn't just the animals that were a problem, it was the condition of the property too. The yard was in complete disarray with trash covering the ground. There was even raw sewage was running through the yard.

A neighbor says he has witnessed the dogs attack other animals in the neighborhood before.

And while he says he's sad and upset by what's happened here, he feels the animals are much better off, no matter what happens to them now.

The Johnson County Heath Department was also called in because of concerns of health hazards.

The Johnson County Dog Warden was in charge of taking the animals away.
