Kentucky State Police Trooper Goes On Trial

The trial of a Kentucky State Police trooper charged with reckless homicide began today.

90 prospective jurors arrived at the Casey County Courthouse this morning.

Now, only 9 men and 5 women are left to decide if Trooper B.J. Burton is guilty of reckless homicide.

Trooper B.J. Burton is accused of punching Billy Phillips at the Adair County Jail.

Phillips hit his head and later died.

Last month, an Adair County judge approved a change of venue request.

The jury will report back to Casey County tomorrow morning, to hear testimony.

If convicted, Burton can face a sentence of up to 5 years in prison.
