Care Packages Sent Overseas

Hundreds of Christmas packages were sent across the globe today, all set to reach Kentucky troops who are stationed overseas.

This is the first year corrections employees, National Guard officials, and inmates gathered at the Frankfort Career Development Center to make this happen.

About six hundred National Guardsman will receive a touch of the "Unbridled Spirit" this holiday season.

Donations and efforts came from various organizations, including the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University.

In the care packages, guardsman will receive snacks, a t-shirt, a Kentucky hat, and a UK Basketball schedule and poster, among other items.

Every unit will receive a UK basketball and football, a UofL basketball and football, and 2 DVD players.

Cheryl Million with the Department of Corrections says they just wanted to do something to help Kentucky servicemen have a little bit of home while they're there.

All six hundred packages are expected to arrive in Iraq and Afghanistan by Christmas.

If you are planning to spread holiday cheer overseas through U.S> Mail, your time is running out.

If you're sending packages to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, or any international destination, they need to be shipped out by Tuesday to make it in time for Christmas.

You have until December 12th to send international packages through Express mail.
