Transylvania University inaugurates new president

Transylvania University celebrated a milestone Friday, as the university inaugurated its 25th president.

Dr. R. Owen Williams has been serving as president for the last nine months, but Friday was his official inauguration.

Governor Steve Beshear and Lexington Mayor Jim Gray were both on hand for the event.

Williams says his plans for Transylvania University include an increased national presence.

"I'm hopeful we can make this institution that is so historic and so important better known throughout the country," Transylvania President Dr. R. Owen Williams said. "It's well known in Kentucky, but I think it's time we take it to the country."

Williams is a graduate of Dartmouth College. He also studied at Cambridge.

He has an extensive background in business and volunteer work.
