Students Protest Logging In UK Forest

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - About two dozen students are protesting
the University of Kentucky's Board of Trustees meeting because of
what they claim is an effort to open Robinson Forest up to logging.

The students greeted trustees Tuesday morning as they entered
the Patterson Office Tower, banging drums and holding signs that read, "Let Robinson Forest Live" and "Save Our Forest."

Although no action item was expected during the meeting, the
board was expected to discuss the ramifications of opening part of
the forest to logging for a research effort.

Student Scott Beckmeyer says that would be a mistake. The
environmental engineering major says "we have enough energy,
enough fight in us to get our voices heard, no matter what they put
in our way."
