Men's Health names Lexington most sedentary U.S. city

Updated: Mon 8:12 PM, Jun 27, 2011

Mike Acord has one word for a new study stating that Lexington isn't fit enough: bogus.

"I guarantee that next Monday morning at the Bluegrass 10,000, we'll have about 3,500 runners," said Acord.

Yet according to Men's Health magazine, Lexington along with Jackson, Mississippi and Indianapolis are starved of those who want to stay physically fit. Many we spoke with at the Arboretum, a popular place for runners and walkers, say they don't see that in this community.

"It could be true, but there's a lot that goes into being fit, not just exercise. Food habits...lifestyle. That's a bold statement, and I just don't believe that at all, " said Kyle Lee.

The study looked at such things as cable television viewing habits, video game usage, and the rate of blood clots. Seattle and San Francisco ranked highest for physically fit folks. People here, though, say it's not hard to see people trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

Men's Health reported that one factor that hurt Lexington in the study was the high number of people who actually died from blood clots.
