It was a devastating fire that left more than a dozen people homeless. The fire at Kirklevington Hills apartments off of Tates Creek Rd. destroyed two buildings nearly a year ago. Now a person hurt after jumping from a second floor balcony is suing the owners and management company of the apartments.
Anthony Johnson spent days in the hospital after the fire . According to court documents, Johnson claims the building wasn't safe. He says the apartments did not have fire escapes or working smoke detectors. He also says the buildings had faulty wiring.
Some current residents of Kirklevington Hills say conditions there have not improved since the fire.
They tell 27NEWSFIRST the wood on the stairwells and decks are rotting and doors to empty apartments are left unlocked.
Our calls to the owner and managment company were never returned. Anthony Johnson and his attorney have also declined to comment on their allegations because of the pending lawsuit.
