Corrections Officer Denies Wrongdoing

A Fayette County correctional officer accused of giving inmates illegal items is speaking out to 27 NEWSFIRST, saying he didn't do anything wrong.

29-year old John Cockrell of Georgetown was arrested Friday, charged with promoting contraband.

State Police say a more than month long internal affairs investigation at Blackburn Correctional Complex led to his arrest.

Cockrell spoke to 27NEWSFIRST, saying he was arrested after being caught with prescription drugs at work. He says he was supposed to take the pills while he was at work.

Cockrell admits not following proper procedure, he says he never intended to give the drugs to inmates.
