It's a place for peace and remembering loved ones.
But that didn't matter to some Central Kentucky vandals, who struck a cemetery on Christmas Day.
Police say more than 50 grave markers at the Carlisle Cemetery, in Nicholas County, were damaged sometime Tuesday night.
Investigators think it was the work of more than one person because some of the markers weigh around a thousand pounds.
Now, many in the community are trying to figure out why this would happen.
Police say the vandals could face felony charges if caught.
Cemetery officials are still trying to assess all the damage, so they haven't been able to determine exactly how much the clean-up will cost.
This is not the first time the Carlisle Cemetery has been hit.
Nearly ten years ago, vandals overturned a fewer number of grave markers in another part of the cemetery.
