A teenager from Lexington is dead after he drove into a Bourbon County pond early Wednesday morning.
Police say 16-year-old Jonathon Gonzalez Medina lost control while driving on KY 353, just after midnight. He ran off the road at the intersection on Russell Cave Road and Silas Pike and overturned in a pond.
Investigators say he was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the front seat into the back seat of the car during the crash.
A passenger in the SUV, 15-year-old Amber Baker, was able to get out of the vehicle and went to a nearby house to call for help. She wasn't hurt.
Gonzalez Medina wasn't able to get out of the SUV and drowned.
Police say slick roads could have played a role in the accident.
We're told the teenagers were coming back to Lexington after a trip to Cynthiana. Both are students at Bryan Station High School.
