From an Internet chat room, to a central Kentucky gas station, police track down a man they say was trying to meet a teenager for sex.
The electronic crimes section of the Kentucky State Police made the arrest Thursday morning in Frankfort.
48-year-old Fred Allen Leonard allegedly tried to meet, at a Frankfort gas station, what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex . They allegedly met in a yahoo chat room.
But when he got there, he was met by police instead and arrested.
Police tell us this is the first time they've run across Leonard on-line They say he has no record of this type of behavior and he's been cooperative with their investigation so far.
Leonard is being held in the the Franklin County Regional Jail on a 10 thousand dollar bond. He's facing a class D felony.
Leonard works for Kentucky State University. They declined to comment about his arrest.
Police will not say if it actually was a 14-year-old girl Leonard was allegedly chatting on-line with or if it was an undercover officer from the electronic crimes section of the Kentucky State Police.
