Suspected Killer Of Nine Charged With Ky. Kidnapping

PADUCAH, KY. (AP) - An Illinois prison inmate charged in a multistate killing spree in the 1970s and 1980s has been indicted in Kentucky on charges of kidnapping and burglary.

A grand jury indicted Timothy Krajcir on Friday for alleged kidnapping and burglary stemming from the 1979 killing of 29-year-old Joyce Tharp.

Krajcir, 63, is an inmate at Tamms Correctional Center in Illinois. He pleaded guilty last month to murder in the 1982 death of a college student, and later was charged with killing five women in Cape Girardeau, Mo., in 1977 and 1982. Also last month, he was charged in Illinois' Williamson County with first-degree murder in the slaying of Virginia Lee Witte.

Paducah police said Krajcir admitted last month to killing Tharp. Kidnapping can carry the same penalties as murder if the abduction results in the victims' death.

Authorities said Krajcir kidnapped Tharp from her home in Paducah, brought her to Carbondale, Ill. and killed her before bringing her body back to Paducah.
