People who knew Deputy Sean Pursifull say his death is something that will be felt by people throughout Bell County.
Pursifull grew up in in the area, graduating from Bell County High School back in 1995. He returned to the county after his training and was half of the first K-9 unit ever in Bell County.
Visitation for Pursifull is Saturday at the Arnett & Steele funeral home in Pineville. Public Visitation begins at 5:00 p.m.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bell County High School gym.
Pursifull and his service dog, King, were a regular sight in the halls of schools in Bell County. He came to perform drug searches, but also to educate students about the dangers of drugs.
School officials call his death a "devastating loss" and say he had the ability to really connect with kids.
Officials also say the drug problem at Bell County High School has fallen dramatically since Pursifull started making his rounds there.
Pursifull was killed when a teenage driver, leading police on a high speed chase, crashed into his cruiser. That driver, and another teenage passenger, have been charged with murder.
