Police in Perry County are searching for a gunman after a preacher was shot and killed while inside his car along the Hal Rogers Parkway near Hazard Thursday.

Police say the victim is 77-year-old Marion Estep, a preacher from the Chavies community.

The man was taken to the Hazard Hospital where he died around 3:00 Friday morning.

Estep's family tells 27 NEWSFIRST he often helps out strangers and that may have played a role in the shooting.

Family members say Estep left Chavies between 2 and 3 in the afternoon, supposedly heading for Jackson in his white 1994 Chrysler.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the car with the hood up on the side of the road to contact Hazard police or the Perry County Sheriff's Department.

MARION Estep, was and is a man of GOD!! He is in a better place than what he left; and his family dearly love and will miss him. Remember the good times and not the bad ones. GOD has him now and GOD will handle the person that took his life

I am Tiny Stidham's oldest daughter, Connie. I am so sorry to hear this has happened to one of our annointed preachers. They are so scarce in our land at this time. However, he is most likely at peace. I pray God will watch over and comfort all his family and friends through this horrible loss.

There are no words of condolences that can be said to your family at this time, except that my family shares in your pain of loss, and hope that God shows the world that no one and I mean no one can hurt one of his special children and get away with it. I hope you find comfort in knowing that God is on your familys side and one way or another justice will be served.

To the Estep Family. Praise the Lord. He is home with Jesus. Never will he suffer again. The person that took his life will have to answer to the Lord for what he has done. But Mr. Estep is rejoicing in heaven with his beloved wife.

We're living in a sick world full of ignorant and ruthless people. The justice system needs to start executing these killers
