CAMPTON, KY -- Kentucky State Police say charges are pending in a single car wreck that killed a passenger and injured the driver, a Nicholasville man. The mishap occured in rural Wolfe County.
A 24-year old Nicholasville man was seriously injured and a passenger in his car, a 29 year old man, was killed in a single car crash on Flat Mary Road (KY 2028) near Campton in Wolfe County early Sunday.
The Kentucky State Police Post in Morehead has identified the victim as Christopher Charles, address not listed. The driver of the car, Justin Deaton, was flown to U. K. Medical Center where he is said to be stable. A spokesperson for the hospital said Sunday evening he is listed in good condition.
The KSP Morehead Post says Deaton apparently overcorrected after his wheels dropped off the road near Campton. The vehicle careened off the highway and overturned several times throwing Charles from the car.
Charles was pronounced dead at the scene by Wolfe County Coroner Frank Porter. Deaton was transported first to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson before being airlifted to Lexington.
KSP Trooper Jay Perkins investigated the accident assisted by the Wolfe County Sheriff's Department and the county EMS. Charges are pending and the investigation continues.
