It's taken almost three years to create, now today UK launched a new emergency notification system called UK Alert, geared toward keeping students safe.
The new system was created to help warn students and faculty in the event of an emergency.
It's a notification system that kicked into effect Monday morning and a system the UK campus community is excited about. School officials explain the system is intended to notify students and the campus community as a whole in the event of an emergency on campus.
In order to issue timely warnings the unique system is designed to send alerts through cell phones, email, text messages, landlines, pagers and even fax machines.
UK officials say the system has in fact been slow because of the high number of people signing up, but they ask everyone be patient and continue trying.
