Our winter storm is shattering records. 17.1" of snow fell in Lexington and that's the most ever recorded during a two day snowstorm. We've had 32.1" of snow in the last 17 days.
HARTFORD, Ky. (AP) - A group of researchers is trying to put together a statewide weather monitoring network that would also pull together historical data.
The project is called Kentucky Mesonet. State climatologist Stuart Foster says the group has put up monitoring equipment in six places but has a goal of finding 100 such sites across the state.
Foster says the network will collect real-time data about wind speed, precipitation and other conditions. The information will be updated every 15 minutes and sent to the National Weather Service and a Web site decided to the project.
