Is it good advertising, or a hazard for drivers?
That's what many in Richmond are asking, after a new electronic billboard was put up on East Main Street.
Richmond officials say they've received complaints about the billboard from people who say it's a distraction to drivers.
Richmond has a city ordinance governing signs and billboards, but it's 20 years old. Officials say they know signage has changed a great deal since then.
City leaders are thinking about drafting a new sign ordinance. But for now, the billboard is not the city's fight, it's the state's.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has given the billboard's owner 30 days to remove the sign, or change it to meet state codes.
The cabinet did not inform the sign's owner what penalty might be imposed if their deadline for changes isn't met.
