MANCHESTER, KY -- Kentucky State Police are investigating a two vehicle wreck that caused one fatality and several injuries Friday shortly after 7 p.m. on KY 11 5 miles south of Manchester, in Clay County.
One driver was arrested. Police suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Trooper Josh Wilson responded. His investigation found that a truck driven by 53-year old Russell Gray of Manchester was southbound on KY 11 when it crossed the centerline and struck a second truck head-on. The second truck was driven by 20 year old Eugene Scottie Henson of Manchester.
Henson and a juvenile passenger were airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment. The 17 year old female passenger was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner at approximately 9:21 PM. Henson was listed in Critical Condition. Neither Henson nor his passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. No drug or alcohol involvement is suspected by Henson.
Gray, who was wearing his seat belt, was transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Upon release Gray was arrested and charged with DUI 1ST, Murder, Assault 1ST, and other traffic related charges. Gray was lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
The incident is still under investigation by Trooper Josh Wilson, who was assisted at the scene by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County EMS and the Lockhart’s Creek Fire Department.
