National Weather Service Says Tuesday's Storm Was Not A Tornado

Strong storms that swept across parts of Nicholas County Tuesday night left extensive damage to properties on Old Maysville Road.
Tin was ripped from barns and sheds and trees were even tossed into neighboring houses.

With confirmed tornado damage across parts of Louisville, the National Weather Service decided to investigate the destruction in Nicholas County Thursday afternoon.

NWS Louisville surveyor, Joe Sullivan, plotted the trajectories of the damage and concluded that straight-line winds were the cause and not a tornado.

However, winds in the area are estimated to have gusts 80-85 mph.

The National Weather Service in Louisville is responsible for 59 counties across Kentucky, 58 of which had storm damage from Tuesday night's storms.
