Accused Fake Doctor Denies Charges

He's accused of pretending to be a doctor and writing medical prescriptions to several people.

Friday, Ashish Vyas went before a Fayette County judge to answer to charges of unlawfully prescribing medications, but he tells us its all a big misunderstanding.

After pleading not guilty, Vyas told 27 NEWSFIRST he did indeed graduate from Grace University Medical School in St Kitts in the Netherlands Antilles.

We reported in the past that he is not a licensed physician in Kentucky or any surrounding states. Vyas says he does not have a license, but is applying for one while finishing up his boards.

Mike Rodman from the Kentucky Medical Board of Licensure says they have never had an applicant from Grace University.

Meanwhile, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, where Vyas taught, says he does have the proper credentials to teach the course work assigned, and no students will be required to re-take any of those classes in order to get credit.

Vyas will be back in court later this month.
