Three Women Sue Magoffin Schools for Discrimination

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Three women are suing Magoffin County schools, claiming they were repeatedly passed over for promotions in favor of men who were less qualified.

According to the complaint, Jill Howard, Kimberly Patrick and Bernadette Carpenter have 59 years of combined experience in education

Since 2004 the plaintiffs have applied 10 times for promotions. Nine of those positions were filled without any of the plaintiffs receiving interviews and men were hired to all the jobs.

Last year the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled there was reason to believe the school board had discriminated against the women.

The women filed suit after the school board refused to act on their complaint.

They are seeking $300,000 each in damages.
