FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's Health and Family Services Cabinet secretary says the state's total Medicaid program will likely fall short more than $360 million over the next two years.
Secretary Janie Miller says that under Gov. Steve Beshear's proposed budget, Medicaid would be shy by as much as $183 million in each of the next two fiscal years. That's despite proposed increases to the program.
Miller says the state's share is about one-third, or about $61
million per year.
Beshear last week proposed an $18.5 billion budget that includes massive cuts to various state agencies and public universities. Kentucky is facing a $900 million shortfall over the next two fiscal years.
