Change of Venue Granted In Police Chief Murder Case

A Powell Circuit Court Judge has granted a change of venue Wednesday in the murder trial against Jamie Barnett.

Barnett is accused of killing Powell County Police Chief Randy Lacy last June. Barnett's attorney requested a change of venue last month saying the case has received months of news coverage and a fair trial there would be impossible.

His attorney argued there's no way around the fact that most everyone in Powell County knows not only the slain police chief, but the man accused of killing him.

Barnett's attorney's say a statute states the move must be a county adjoining the county where the crime took place.
