Eubank Man Jailed Following Hail Of Bullets Fired Into Residence

PULASKI COUNTY, KY -- A Eubank man has been jailed following an early Saturday morning incident where more than 50 rounds of ammunition from an assault rifle were fired during a drive-by shooting at a mobile home and an adjacent garage.

Pulaski Sheriff Todd Wood says no one was seriously injured. Deputies took Forty-one year old Derel Lee Griffin into custody about 2:30 Saturday morning. Slightly injured in the shooting incident was 45-year old Carl "Rick" Smittle. It was Smittle's residence that was shot-up.

Authorities say Smittle received minors cuts to his chest from shrapnel. He was treated and released from the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

The Sheriff's Office says the shooting followed an argument and altercation at the residence at 87 Hansford Street in Eubank.

Reportedly, the argument was between Griffin, Smittle and several other unidentified inviduals. Griffin reportedly left the residence and allegedly returned armed with a .223 assault rifle which authorities say he used to shoot-up the house from the road.

Authorites say Griffin fled the scene but was later located at his own residence and taken into custody "without further incident." He was treated at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for injuries sustained in the original argument, deputies say. Griffin has been charged with assault and wanton endangerment.

Sheriff's units were assisted by the Kentucky State Police, the Pulaski County 5th District Constable, and the Somerset Fire/EMS. The investigation is continuing by the Pulaski County Sheriff''s Department.
