Police in Mercer County are investigating the discovery of infant remains.
The Mercer County coroner said the remains were in a trunk in the attic of a home on Runyon Road Friday afternoon.
We're told the woman who has lived in the home for several decades is now living in a nursing home. Her family found old medical equipment inside the trunk while sorting through her things. Not knowing what kinds of substances could be in the trunk, they called authorities.
Later, officials uncovered the skeletal remains which they say are so decomposed, investigators are only able to determine the bones are that of a newborn.
Harrodsburg police say newspapers found in the trunk with the remains leads them to believe the bones date back to the 1940's.
