Semi With Explosives Wrecks

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) - Police evacuated businesses and closed a
section of U.S. Highway 41 for about an hour Thursday after a car
collided with a truck carrying mining explosives in western
Kentucky.
No one was injured in the accident, which occurred around 9 a.m.
CST in a commercial district at the edge of town. But several homes
and more than a dozen businesses within a half-mile of the accident
site were evacuated, said Henderson Fire Chief Terry Lewis.
Police also blocked traffic for an hour around the accident site
until emergency officials could pull the truck into John James
Audubon State Park near the Ohio River bridge between Kentucky and
Indiana.
The explosives were transferred to another truck after the
accident occurred, police said.
"Everything is fine. We're all going home," Lewis said.
Police said the accident happened when a car hit a patch of icy
road and slid into the truck.
