Moon Mystery Solved

If you happened to look up into the sky Saturday night you might have noticed something a little different.

For some, the moon overhead appeared to have a large ring of light around it.

Scientist say, that large ring of light is actually ice crystals that have gathered above the ground, as thin, wispy clouds.

Incoming light rays from the moon are bent--or "diffracted"--by these ice crystals.

Old folk tales actually say the "ring" means bad weather to come.

The saying goes like this: When there's a ring around the moon, rain or snow is coming soon.
