A Montgomery County man is dead after he was shot in the head multiple times early Sunday morning at a house on Bell Farm Road.

Police say Greg Rudd, 46, of Jeffersonville, Ky., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man police say pulled the trigger, Mike Dunn, tells 27NEWSFIRST in an interview he had no choice but to shoot Rudd.

"It was self defense, he pointed his gun at me and said, 'I'm going to kill you.'" said Dunn.

Dunn went on to say he only went to find out why Rudd and another man were on his property without his permission, but when he approached the men, he says things turned ugly.

"I was backed in to a corner, I feel sick now, I wish it never happened, but I had no choice," said Dunn.

Police spent several hours on the property investigating. At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

"I just hope the family can forgive me, I feel horrible, it just happened so fast," Dunn said.

Greg Rudd is survived by two sons.

The shooting is still under investigation.

You can sure tell the answers from the liberal sheeple. Until you are threatened by someone with a gun, don't make statements of which you have no knowledge. I have been through several self defence course's taught by some of the best and you are taught 2 shots center mass and one to the head. YOU MUST STOP the attack on yourself and to shoot someone in leg or arm is ridiculous as he can and will still shoot you. There are some real stupid people out there with no facts making comments.

Rudd in Mt. Sterling,I read your comment and I think you are a very small minded person thinking the way you do. All you are doing is creating more trouble for all to see and hear.Self defence is still legal no matter how you do it. A lot of people are talking about how many people Mike has killed. Please give us names, time and place, or quit stiring the pot

well i am here to say that i am more less family to the rudds and the property that mike is talking about is on a right of way road to anyone and people take it all the time and the property was only leased to mike dunn...my opinions is he killed his own family and he killed a couple of other to and everything that hes done should be done to him...and to be pistol whooped you need marks to prove that...but to be an informate for the police anything will get said...the investigators need to take this farther then what it is...put him in jail and let him rot or shoot him dead...its not right...

Mr. Anonymous, where I live AK-47's are NOT illegal as long as they are NOT fully automatic...

Posted by: Anonymous Location: sadieville, ky on Feb 27, 2008 at 10:40 PM
seems like theres a whole new story now that the other guy is talking, now for the ones of you that think mike dunn did a great thing by shooting greg rudd, go buy the mt.sterling advocate, thats where you will get the truth, dunn not saying what kind of gun he used to kill rudd, but what Im hearing it was a AK-47, and I thought they were illigal!!! go read the paper people!!!

wake up people,if someone threaten you with words,I'M GOING TO KILL YOU and points a weapon at you,are you just going to stand there and wait to see if he is going to shoot.I DON'T THINK SO.I would do the same thing to protect myself.Try to put yourself in Mikes shoes and please wait for all the facts in the case to be prosented. well to tell you all the truth... If I were in the man's situation that is alive, if i was cornered and a gun pointing at me and someone saying that they are going to kill me, the best place to shoot is the head or chest its best to kill them if they are going to kill you because of the law system, a criminal can go to court and sue you or even trial you for attempted murder even if it's them that start it they can win for being shot so if someone were to try to kill me or break in my home I'd kill them no questions asked because it's easier to get out for self defense if the person is dead because they can't testify against you and win in court!

i would like to say for all of those who are so quick to judge from the shooters television appearance, that the serial killer Ted Bundy also claimed to have never killed.

IF MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHERRIF DEPART. WOULD DO THERE JOB MABYE PEOPLE WOULD NOT COMMIT MURDER OR BURGLURY. THEY SEEM TO LIKE THESE KIND OF PEOPLE. PEOPLE LIKE MIKE DUNN KNOW THAT NOTHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT MABYE IF MIKE MURDERS SOMEONE ELSE THEY WILL OPEN THERE EYES

I find it so sad that common sense is lacking in today's society. The simple fact of the matter is that if Mr. Rudd hadn't been on property belonging to someone else, he wouldn't have been shot. Mr. Dunn did not cross onto Mr. Rudd's property. Had Mr. Rudd been where he was suppose to be, this wouldn't be an issue. Was it justified? That is a question for the courts. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that Greg Rudd was trespassing. He could have avoided this by staying on his own property.

Murder is terrible but the worst part is the way you folks murder the English language in your posts, for instance; 1. drugs wasnt involved; 2.The two of them has had; 3.Greg and his buddy was out late; 4.but they was. Do you people actually talk this way? It should be a law that in order to get a computer you should be literate.

Posted by: ksp .officer Location: close to home on Feb 20, 2008 at 01:35 PM
well to tell u the truth i personally know mr dunn he is a fine guy for all u slandering people he did what he had to do to stay alive now think about it u gonna stand there let some shoot u .no i dont think u will.

Posted by: ME Location: Somewhere In KY... on Feb 20, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Everyone who is commenting on this site ought to know what is going on before making an opinion1.No.drugs wasnt involved.2. No Greg wasnt stealing anything. Now to get that straight.I know both of these parties and what the news cast didnt bother to find out the FULL story about these two.Greg's property bumps up against the land that Mike leases. The two of them has had disagreements over the last several years over property lines.Last year Mike went on Greg's property and yes actually pistol whipped him where Greg had to go to the hospital and have his head sewed up. The sheriff talked Greg out of pressing charges against Mike.Funny what you can get away with when you know people. Now Greg and his buddy was out late maybe they shouldnt have been but they was. They maybe crossed the property line maybe they didnt but they had turned around and was heading back towards Gregs house when Mike came up behind them. After that I dont know.Ican tellyou they wereinthe woods a mile from Mikes house

Posted by: matt Location: mt.sterling on Feb 20, 2008 at 12:52 PM
i think that unless greg was in mikes house it shouldn't have happened. the fact is mike has killed someone before and got away with it now how many times do you think that he thinks he can get away with murder??? he should have not shot for the head if he thought he really had to shoot. just because he gives the consealed weapons class he thinks he can get away with murder. but his time will come and he will get cought in a lie and the he will get what he desearves. EXECUTION self defeanse the last time i checked wasnt shooting a man in the head, or more than 1 or 2 times. i feel sorry for the rudd family in this case and hopefully the investigators and court will see the truth and execute a murderer.

I think it was an murder for hire with a woman in camargo, to kill her husband a few years back, open your eyes people!!

Posted by: lady Location: mount sterling on Feb 20, 2008 at 09:46 AM
Didnt mike dunn shoot another person a few years ago and claimed self defense? How many people has to be shot or killed for something to be done?

Posted by: Curious Location: Stanton on Feb 20, 2008 at 07:08 AM
I wonder how they got close enough to pistol whip him in the first place. Can we say drug deal gone bad? I assure you if someone was on my farm that I know very well I would not be the one backed in a corner and they wouldn't get close enough to pistol whip me either.

Posted by: Anonymous2 Location: Somewhere on Feb 20, 2008 at 03:21 AM
I only met the guy once about a week ago and he seemed nice enough to me. Just because he doesnt look like hes been pistol whipped doesnt mean anything...not everyone is pistol whipped in the face! He protected what was his and theres nothing wrong with that!

If you knew him, you would think differently, but apparently you dont, like female from mt.sterling said, mike dunn is a murderer!!!

yea, look the other way, thats the way it usually goes, when someone knows for a fact dunn knew rudd, and even told him he would kill him, and guess what, he did, now, everyone is calling him a hero, I would say murderer!!!

I don't know any parties involved here so I can't comment on character...But I see NO marks on Dunn. If someone is on my property at 3 Am I am going to take my pistol with me if I go outside. If they are just passing thru I would watch from inside and call the law. Now if they are coming in on me or breaking in to a building I have I would shoot at them. If Dunn had a rifle and got pistol whipped he had to have gotten up close to them and the rifle would have been knocked outta his hands. All don't add up to self defense here.We need to see what the third guy has to say. But there again he was with the one shot so he may tell a lie to cover his own tail.Sounds to me like drugs were involved somewhere along the line and things turned bad.Thats how it usually goes in these situations. Does Dunn live alone? If not maybe someone there could shed a little light on this as well. The police can look at the area that the "scuffle" took place and tell if someone was pistol whipped.

you ask how I know so much about this person I lived in that town for a few years, and was friends with a person that worked at a home health agency in that town, and she told me what happened to a young girl that worked there, dont ever say that a person should be shot too death, untill you know the whole truth, which we all dont really know!! does a man really deserve to die without knowing the truth behind it all?? I thought the person had to be inside your house for you to be truly threatened!! does (dunn) have markes from bing pistol whipped?? think about everything before you say something!!

Posted by: me Location: close by on Feb 18, 2008 at 11:00 PM
This is real sad, We don't know the whole story but to kill someone over trespassing? Pistol whipped?? i seen a few of his interviews and didn't see a scratch on him and he feared for his life?? Come on, Mr. Dunn is twice greg's size. Hope justice prevails and the truth comes out for the family of Mr. Rudd.

Posted by: Darlene Location: KY on Feb 18, 2008 at 10:55 PM
I am sorry for the loss that the family suffers but I see it as murder. One bullit to the head and you are pretty much dead, more then one and its murder. He could have shot him anywhere and not killed him or at least gave him a chance to live. If he had the chance to shoot him more then once he had the chance to do anything. I think it is a line of crap he is telling and deserves to be charged with murder. The other guy needs to come clean and tell the truth. God Bless them all.

Posted by: Matt Location: west liberty on Feb 18, 2008 at 10:38 PM
If he was threatened and protected him self then he has that right. But, was there a piston? He says there was but i want to know for a fact there was one. Also, why did he need to shoot him multiple times? Also, why were they on his property? Maybe they were out somewhere and just crossing there. It was late and they may not have seen a sign. And, did the man call the police and say that someone was on his property or did he just head out with his gun? So many unknowns to say who was in the right. But, its not to early to say it is sad. I know some people that know both these people and they say that the shooter needs to be looked into. All-in-All i will say that if self defense i can understand protecting oneself. But i would like to have the pistol verified and here the story of the other man that was there.

First of all why didnt he call the police when he knew he had trespassers? And if he was pistol whipped where are his bruses or cuts? To shoot someone in the head multiple times tells me he wanted this person dead. I dont beleive his story or trust him. He is a shady person, just check out his record.

I was always taught if it doesn't belong to you, don't touch it. If it's not your land, don't be on it. People are fed up with other people thinking they are 'Entitled' to other people's personal property. We are raising a generation of people who think that it's ok to do as you want, whenever you want. I raised my kids to respect other people's property. I wonder how many of you upstanding citizens would be ok with finding me sitting in your house at 1:00 in the morning, eating your bologna salad, drinking out of your milk carton. I see that as no different than finding someone on your posted property at 3:00 in the morning, never mind the fact that he had a gun. By reading some of these accounts, I believe that most were written by folks who routinely trespass. I guess a lot of people are afraid that they'll get shot this spring either planting their cash crop or while they're doing a little cooking. Here’s a ideal, don’t trespass or steal and you won’t need to worry about being shot.

Posted by: Guilty Location: Mt sterling on Feb 18, 2008 at 08:05 PM
Ok people let's all face reality a moment.Did Mike Dunn have any bruises or blood of being"pistol whipped".I personally know Mike Dunn and he is a big guy and you are not in any way gonna pistol whip him. Also if he "walked down there to see what was the matter" and was getting pistol whipped so badly and the other party waving a gun when did he get his gun?? He came down there with the gun with intentions to kill.did he tell the guy to wait a minute you hold that gun im gonna go get mine? I think not. moral of the story he didn't get pistol whipped with a rifle in his hands. This man will be marked a murderer in my book. Also i've heard from numerous sources that these guys have a friendship. So untill you people from other place's know MIKE DUNN and his background you need to listen a little closer to the story.. Remember 1. You dont get pistol whipped while holding a rifle. 2. If a guy is pointing a gun at you, you dont run for your's. 3.At what point in time did Mike get his gun???

BOTTOM LINE they shouldn't have been on the mans property. Sounds like they was up to no good. I'm not taking up for Mr. Dunn. But if they were not on someone elses property then this would of never happened.

So now the rule is, if someone is on your property, kill them. Come on, give me a break, murder is murder. For all these positive people that think it was fair to kill him, wonder where your children are trespassing?>??

Posted by: Angie Location: Prestonsburg, KY on Feb 18, 2008 at 02:35 PM
First of all these men were on property that was clearly marked with a "No Trespassing," sign...Secondly, you heard in the news report that Rudd had pistol whipped Mr. Dunn and then threatened to kill him. It is my opinion that Mr. Dunn had no other choice but to protect himself. Third, as for the comments that Mr. Dunn should have shot him in the leg or should have been able to just shoot once, you have to keep in mind, this is a two against one situation, and if someones standing there pistol whipping you and they have a companion there with them, who could shoot you dead any second, and you have a rifle in your hand, do you think that your going to be able to stop and think to aim the gun at someones leg or arm? Heck no, your going to react and just start shooting in order to keep the enemy from killing you! Come on people, put yourself in this man's shoes!

Dunn probly went down there drunk wavin a gun around runnin his mouth and thats when it got out of control... We DO NOT know the whole story and my question is... WHERES THE OTHER GUY RUDDS FRIEND AND WHATS HE SAYIN.. I BET A LOT MORE INFO COMES OUT WHEN HE STARTS TALKIN...

i could see if he really had to shoot this guy who was gonna kill him if he didnt but in the head more than once thats just dont seem like self defense sounds like something else was going on and things went bad so he shot him and killed him but hey we all have our own thoughts and feelings so hope they figure it all out only the ppl there really know what happened............

A man has the right to bear arms. That is granted by the U.S. Constitution. The only factor I think is a little strange is the fact that he shot the man multiple times.

Posted by: Mike J. Location: Harlan, KY on Feb 18, 2008 at 01:32 PM
Hopefully everyone will learn the whole story soon. If it is as the man said then he had every right to protect himself and his family on HIS property.

i agree with erine , as long as we are hearing the truth, its time that people start taking the law into their own hand if the law will not do thing to help.you people that disagree with this are weak prey for this scum that like to rob and hurt people,i carry a pistol everywhere i go just for protection, and i pray i never have to use it, but its there if i need it

Posted by: angela Location: winchester, ky. on Feb 18, 2008 at 11:26 AM
if these 2 men were trespassing on that man property without permission and he was threaten by both men then yes he had no other choice but to defend himself. they was on his property threatening to kill him so he had no other choice but to shoot back. i am sure if they didn't fire shots at him then wouldn't fired back at them. they had no business on his property. i hope that the family of the man whom got killed will forgive the shooter and understand why he had to shoot back. if not then life goes on.

This guy is by all mean's guilty of murder. You can protect your property by maybe shooting someone once and running them off. To shoot someone multiple times is murder especially with a RIFLE come on now people. Who care's about tax dollars do you want this guy running free around your family. I don't jail him with murder. Also I do know the man. Trouble

i think that this is stupid and you people are too sayin that he saved you tax dollars by killing another human being is completly insane... what about his family that is now havin to plan a funeral you should be ashamed... you can protect your self and your property and if you were forced to shoot why not shoot in the leg or arms no reason he should have been shot multiple times in the head... my prayers are with the family...

Self defense or not the man should still be arrested. He shot another man multiple times and killed him. He should be in jail.

Posted by: Jeff Location: Mt. Sterling on Feb 18, 2008 at 10:41 AM
Who was the other guy with the victim in this case? What was his statement on what happened? Thats whats missing from this story, what did he say? Was he charged with a crime? were these 2 guys on Mr. Dunns property up to no good, hunting without permission, or trying to do something to Dunn? Nobody knows and WE the readers dont know what happened either so its hard to come to a real conclusion on this story. The law states that You cannot use deadly force in a tresspassing situation but can use the minimum ammount of force necessary to remove them from the property. If this story happened like Mr. Dunn said then he would be justified in what happened but who knows what really happened. Why didnt he just call the Police instead and not go down there at all. Who's to say Dunn didnt go down there and point his gun at them first and threaten to kill them for tresspassing on his property. Either way its a sad case, but We havent got a clue on the real story or what really happened.

The whole story is NOT out and if you all want to slap this guy on the back, check his record and the LOCATION of the actual shooting first.

First off, these men had no business on this man's property! He was protecting what was his, so leave him alone! Citizens can no longer count on the law to protect them so we have to protect ourselves & our property! You let some idiot point a gun at me & I will not wait to ask whether or not he is going to shoot me, I'll shoot him first which is what this man did! No charges should be filed against this man, he was protecting himself & what belongs to him!
