Icy Sidewalks Keep ER Doctors Busy

Icy streets and roads made for a dangerous morning on Friday. The ice melted fairly quickly, but not before causing some problems.

Sidewalks and driveways that hadn't been salted were still ice covered, as many people quickly realized.

Hospitals around Lexington report seeing a number of patients, injured after falling on the ice.

At St. Joseph Hospital, Emergency Room doctors say they treated many fall injuries. They saw injuries to ankles, hips, shoulders, legs and heads, among others.

83-year-old Norman Atkins showed up at St. Joseph on Friday morning. He says he fell on his iced-over porch, even though he was holding on to the railing.

"All of a sudden, I'm on the ground and just fell. My foot was under me," said Atkins.

He says he's never had a broken bone or an x-ray until this fall.

Most of the ice has already melted, but you should still be careful on driveways or sidewalks.
